Certifying Teen Moral Courage Mentors

A teen reflects on how Moral Courage shaped her character

An interactive and multi-media journey for high school students, the Teen Mentor certificate program is offered exclusively by our nonprofit foundation. Ultimately, graduates mentor middle-schoolers in the skills to build and sustain healthy relationships with their peers.

This experience addresses several challenges in K-12 ed today:

  • Disengagement of students: high schoolers discover their agency when they mentor middle schoolers. Plus, they foster purpose through the responsibility to care about younger people.

  • Burnout of teachers and counselors: Teen MC Mentors are "safe harbors" for fellow students. They’re the first responders to those who just need to be heard and understood.

  • Practicality of learning: According to employers, the most valuable workers are those who can do what AI can't: cultivate the teamwork that comes from trust. Becoming certified in such skills — as a teenager, to boot — is a practical asset.

Here's what some educators and teens say:

“Seeing our students practice the Moral Courage skill set during their training — and even weeks later, hearing them reflect and discuss the impact of what they learned in their own time — is incredibly rewarding.”

“Integrating Moral Courage into our school culture has been transformational. Our students are healthier and happier. So are we, their educators!"

"Like a lot of teenagers, I’ve long wondered what to do about everyday stress. Becoming a Moral Courage Mentor has been as helpful to me as it has to the kids I guide.”
